The Soo Theatre Receives Present

By Lizabeth Jenkins-Dale

If  The Soo Theatre Project could wrap its holiday present this year with a big red bow, it would! The Soo Theatre Project, a community, non-profit organization, which promotes the arts in the Sault Sainte Marie and Eastern Upper Peninsula areas, is no stranger to the generosity and kindness of many supporters. STP’s present this year is another example of this generosity and kindness. Yes, the gift definitely needs a gorgeous, bright red bow!

The present, which actually came in November, is none other than Ashley Corbiere, owner of Allure Dance Studio of Sault Sainte Marie, MI. Not only is Ashley running a successful dance company, but she is always ready to help with multiple community events and organizations, too. Having just volunteered with the EUP Hospice House “Dancing With The Stars” fundraiser, Ashley then collaborated with The Soo Theatre Project to provide three dance instructors so that STP would continue to fulfill its dance class commitments after an unexpected change in the dance department. (Note: Luanna Armstrong of The Academy of Performing Arts also offered assistance as well thus adding to the strong sense of community!)

These three dance instructors, Jenna Perry, Billie Sams, and Kimberly Jodoin, are all highly qualified and bring their many talents to The Soo Theatre Project to teach students aged 2 ½ to adult in pre-ballet, ballet, jazz, modern, and music/tumbling classes. The Soo Theatre Project is thrilled to be co-creating wonderful dance opportunities for our community with Ashley and the Allure Dance Company, and feel as if these women, Jenna, Billie, and Kimberly, truly are presents!

Ashley is overseeing their dance instruction at The Soo Theatre Project while working with Karen Hughes Beacom, STP’s Artistic Director, on the choreography and costumes for the STARS Dance Concert to take place at the LSSU Fine Arts Center on Sunday, June 1, 2014.

Ashley’s commitment to helping STP is fueled by her passion for community involvement. She states, “I have always been a supporter of Soo Theatre Project and the artistic opportunities it brings to our community, so when called upon I was happy to help.”

Sault Sainte Marie has a profoundly positive reputation for coming together for community events, situations of need, and celebrations. The consistent community outpouring of support for The Soo Theatre Project now and in the past has been heartwarming and compassionate. The Soo Theatre Project wishes to express gratitude to Ashley Corbiere as well as the members of this community. Thank you, Sault Sainte Marie and the Eastern Upper Peninsula community, for being such an integral part of the STP success!

Yes, The Soo Theatre Project received a very nice present, indeed, this holiday season. After ten years, The Soo Theatre Project is moving ahead to ensure the next ten years venture into new artistic avenues and dancing pinnacles!
