Can you just hear the fabulous, upbeat, toe tapping “The Music Man” songs now? “Seventy-six trombones led the big parade, With a hundred and ten cornets close at hand. They were followed by rows and rows of the finest virtuosos, The cream of ev’ry famous band!”
That is the signature song from the 1957 Broadway, five-time Tony Award winning musical, “The Music Man,” and it’s here at The Soo Theatre Project next weekend July 14, 15, 16, and 17!
Just in case you are not familiar with this remarkable and energetic musical: “The plot concerns con man Harold Hill, who poses as a boys’ band organizer and leader and sells band instruments and uniforms to the naive Iowa townsfolk, promising to train the members of the new band. But Harold is no musician and plans to skip town without giving any music lessons. Prim librarian and piano teacher Marian sees through him, but when Harold helps her younger brother overcome his lisp and social awkwardness, Marian begins to fall in love. Harold risks being caught to win her.” -Wikipedia.
“The Music Man” has it all…romance, marvelous music, a bit of drama, and a good old fashioned, heart warming finale. It’s a must see!
The Soo Theatre Project’s “The Music Man” has an international line up of leadership: Anthony Aceti from Soo, Canada is the Director; Megan Wigmore of Soo, Canada is the Assistant Director; STP’s Karen Hughes Beacom of Pickford, MI is the Producer, and Alan Jacobus of Cedarville is the Orchestra Conductor.
With well over 100 participants, there is sure to be someone you know on stage or working behind the scenes. It takes much practicing, rehearsing, costuming, lighting, and coordinating to produce such a show of this magnitude with this much talent.
Be sure to get your tickets as soon as you can because you won’t want to miss this special event performed on this historic stage in downtown Soo.

“Rebecca McCauley, former Soo Theatre student of Dottie Case and Karen Beacom, is returning to the Soo Theatre stage to share her musical talents with the community. [Her performance will feature musicians BethAnne Kunert, saxophone, and Dr. Mary Jo Cox, piano.]
“This Benefit Concert is the first in a series of annual concerts to establish a scholarship fund to financially assist students who might not otherwise be able to participate in enrichment activities at the Soo Theatre Project and their musical educational wing STARS. Rebecca would like to help remove any barriers that might get in the way of local children and adults making music a part of their lives.
“Rebecca graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. Before CMU she was actively involved in the many enrichment programs at the Soo Theatre Project and STARS. Rebecca would like to give back to Soo Theatre Project by starting the McCauley Family Scholarship Fund (MFSF), as these programs were such an important part in the musical journey that has led her to where she is today. Rebecca will be attending Belmont University in the fall for her master’s degree in vocal performance and pedagogy. She plans to pursue her DMA, teach at the university level, and perform professionally.
“All net proceeds and donations from the annual concert series will go directly into this scholarship fund to assist families who could not otherwise be able participate in such enrichment programs.”
