August 15, 16, 17, 18Hansel and Gretel opens this weekend. Thursday through Sunday. Starring Karen Hughes Beacom of Pickford, Dawn Pawlewski Krogh of Lincoln, NE, Jon and Beth Truitt of Evansville, IN, and Scott Wichael of Kansas City, KS. There will also be special appearances by Maureen Delaney-Lehman, Melanie Case, Samantha McCormick, Becky McCauley and all of the Soo Opera apprentices from our very own community.  “Hansel and Gretel” will be conducted by Dr. John Wilkinson of the Sault Symphony Orchestra, Sault, ON. This timeless story is further enhanced with the Footlight Dance Theatre, too! Advanced tickets can be purchased with a discount at The Soo Theatre Project office located on Ashmun Street.

August 19, 20, 21, 22 – Dance Camp, for kids aged 7+ with at least one year of classical ballet, is conducted by The Soo Theatre Project’s Dance Director, Dianna George, and her brother, Gregory George, Artistic Director with The Children’s Ballet Theatre of Michigan from Lansing. This camp includes the opportunity to perform with the summer touring company of The Children’s Ballet Theatre of Michigan on Thursday, August 22 at 7:30 pm. Rumor has it that Mr. George will be bringing a surprise guest teacher for the dance camp as well!

August 29Mike Dempsey and Friends Encores is back by popular demand! Sault Sainte Marie’s Mike Dempsey returns to his roots once a year to share his incredible piano talents while performing oldies, but goodies to a packed crowd. The audience is sure to enjoy musical hits and well-known songs by great American composers, arranged by Mike Dempsey, and sung by friends Mr. Dempsey brings with him as well as our wonderful local performers such as Sopranos Karen Hughes Beacom and Maureen Delaney-Lehman, Mezzo Sopranos Linda Freeze and Lola Kennedy, Tenor Franc Laux, Baritone John Young, Bass Gig Stewart, Drummer Eric Gadzinski, and Narrator Tom Ewing. Also, there will be a silent auction this evening with the auction closing at intermission. Two fabulous events for the price of one!

September 21 – The Second Hand Rose Luncheon sponsored by The Country Club Bridge Group is a fabulous Soo Theatre Project fundraiser event, which includes a delicious lunch, preview of items for sale, drawings for luxurious table centerpieces, and shopping time. The Soo Theatre Project is currently selling a limited amount of tickets for this one-of-a-kind event as well as accepting donations of gently used, high-end women’s clothing for all sizes and seasons.
