Rotary Supports the Arts in Sault Ste. Marie

Show of Shows-2013-Letter Verticle

The Rotary Clubs of Sault Ste. Marie are at it again!  The stage is set for its annual Rotary Show of Shows coming to the Soo Theatre this Sunday, October 6. at 2 p.m. The Rotary Clubs of Sault Ste. Marie are striving to go beyond simply providing one afternoon of great entertainment. They have a bigger goal in mind — to serve the arts at large in our community. Rotarians Leisa Mansfield, Dianna George, Craig Flickinger and Tom Ewing are leading this quest to build a monetary fund for the arts in Sault Ste. Marie.  he idea would be for any local arts group to apply for funding through this local grant, or scholarship. Last year’s Show of Shows was the start of this idea. The goal of the show was to reach out to artists from all around our Eastern Upper Peninsula region. In the spirit of a shared community of arts organizations in the area, a variety of local groups will once again provide the entertainment for the show next Sunday, with all of the proceeds going into this local arts fund.

Who will be performing?

Vocal performance groups include: The Benedictunes, Gary Guevara; Foreign Accord, Mark San Angelo; choirs from Sault High, Lisa Justin; and Lake Superior State University, Karen Beacom; as well as dance company performances by Allure Dance Studio, Ashley Corbiere; Lake Superior State University, Deb Chosczcyk; and Footlights and STARS dancers, Dianna George. Vocalists Maureen Delaney-Lehman, Nettie Fowler in Carousel; Brian Miller, Tevye in Soo Theatre’s Fiddler on the Roof; and singer, songwriter Caitlin LeBlanc of Brimley will perform solos in the show. Rotary Morning Club Players led by Tina Nason as well as the Noon Club Players will delight you with surprise performances of their own. You won’t want to miss seeing the Rotarians that you know and love in action on the stage. Performances by soprano Emily O’Conner and pianist Kyle Flickinger will also be on the program.

What does it mean to be a Rotarian?

One of their mottos is “service above self.” You will see most Rotarians at a host of events in our community. You will see them because they are devoted members of the community, involved in Rotary and beyond. And you will definitely see them at the Soo Theatre on Sunday, October 6, at 2 p.m. at their very own Show of Shows.

Come out for an afternoon of great entertainment put on by members of your community for you and help the Rotarians in their quest build this fund to serve the arts in Sault Ste. Marie. If you are feeling called to service, consider becoming a Rotarian yourself.  As the theme song for Rotary says, “We are calling out around the world, come join us!”  Come and do great things!

Tickets for this event can be purchased in advance at the Soo Theatre, by calling (906) 632-1930, or at the door the day of the event.
