S.T.A.R.S. – Soo Theatre Arts Resource Studios is now Soo Theatre Education!
Welcome to Soo Theatre Education
The Soo Theatre Education Department strives to offer diverse experiences in the visual and performing arts to both youth and adults in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life in the communities of our region by providing people of all ages with affordable educational experiences in the fine arts.
The Soo Theatre offers classes and workshops in theatre, music, dance, and the visual arts, as well as private music lessons, and opportunities to participate in performing groups and productions.
Some of the opportunities provided through our Education Department include:
- A Youth Theatre musical production each spring for ages 8-18
- The EUP Festival of Voice, Piano, & Strings each spring with professional guest clinicians
- A Youth Opera with Youth Orchestra accompaniment each winter
- Summer Camps in a wide variety of disciplines
- Soo Youth Orchestras and New Horizons Adult String Orchestras
- Chamber Music
- Soo Community Band
- Short-term group classes in Dance, Theatre, Voice, Creative Writing, Poetry, Improv, Violin, Cello, Piano and more!
In addition, as young students develop their technique and virtuosity, they may be invited to audition for our mainstage musical held each July, and our fully-staged opera each August, as well as other community and professional productions held on the Historic Soo Theatre Stage.
In addition to group classes and group performing experiences, the Soo Theatre offers music lessons on the following instruments:
- violin, viola, cello, string bass
- harp, voice, piano
- flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon
- trumpet, french horn, trombone, tuba
