Learn to talk proper with the cast of My Fair Lady! A commotion of common folk, who are anything but common, take the stage as well alongside Eliza’s father, Alfred P. Doolittle, played by John David Walsh. Riley Wilson, Turner Callaghan, Michelle Callaghan, Tessa Woolever, Malia Lefebre, Randi Bumstead, Carrie Gregg, Euegene Gregg, Sara Russell, Erin Pendygraft, Stephanie Vert, Eleanor Barbour, Caroline May, Ellah Deagan, Lilah Fulford, Zack Garlock, Theresa McCready, Alyson Wise, Dana Case, Kyra Hill, Gabbie Pepin, Ben Deatrick and Sam Cox blur the lines between the polished and the common, the everyday and the once-in-a-lifetime moments!
KEYNOTE ADDRESS AND INCLUSION THEATRE WORKSHOP
The past 10 years have been thrilling for the arts and inclusion. Inclusion is an act of creating not just a safe space for marginalized communities, but a level playing field for all. Orion Couling, founder and executive director for EDGE of Orion, an Illinois NFP, has been at the forefront of this process!
Couling joins the Soo Theatre on Monday, July 1st at 5pm to lead a keynote address, which will include a thrilling evening of storytelling, pictures, and simple strategies you can use to make your school, church, or family more open to people with intellectual and physical disabilities.
Orion Couling is the award-winning founder and executive director of EDGE of Orion, www.edgeoforion.com. He is a specialist in project-based learning and carries 20 years of adventure-based teaching experience. He created the Constellation Project, a program that celebrates inclusion and neuro-diverse participation. With over 100 directing credits in professional and youth theatre to his name, he remains one of the foremost experts in dynamic educational theatre. His “edu-tainment” style is known to bring levity and inspiration to classrooms and audiences. Orion is also a stage combat instructor, stunt coordinator, and a licensed Maritime Captain.
On Tuesday, July 2nd, Couling will lead a Peer Workshop for students interested in working alongside and creating more meaningful relationships with neuro-typical students. This peer workshop will be prior to the inclusion theatre workshop. The Inclusion Theatre Workshop will include peers and neuro-typical students who will work together, under Couling’s direction to do role playing, drama, expression, and more! The Peer Workshop will run from 12-1pm and the Inclusion Theatre Workshop will run from 2-4pm on Tuesday, July 2nd.
The Monday keynote address is open to the public and all are welcome to attend; friends, family, and anyone interested in learning more. Tuesday’s workshops have a limited space, so call ahead to reserve a spot.
The keynote address, the peer workshop and the inclusion theatre workshop are all offered at no charge to the participants, thanks to our generous sponsors: Carrie Carr, Speaks Education, and O’Connor’s Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram.
