Soo Theatre presents:
A STARS Candlelight Christmas
Saturday, 12/7/2019
4:00pm
LSSU Arts Center
A STARS Candlelight Christmas (aka Laker Christmas) is truly a community collaborative event! Join us for an afternoon of Christmas music sure to put you in the holiday spirit.
Make sure you come early; Soo Theatre’s New Horizons Adult String Orchestras will be there to greet you in the lobby with Carols and a sing-a-long of all the traditional Christmas Carols from 3:20-3:40pm. After that, work your way into the auditorium and you will hear more of your favorite holiday tunes played by some of our youngest members, the STARS Youth Orchestra early level.
A STARS Candlelight Christmas is incredibly special because it highlights many of the groups from the historic downtown Soo Theatre, while incorporating LSSU students and the community.
Soo Cello Crew will play Ode to Joy, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and Infant Holy Infant Lowly. This group of young cellists perform chamber music style (without a conductor), and in 4-part harmony.
The community choir, under the direction of Karen Beacom, boasts members of the newly reformed Hiawathaland Community Chorus as well as local faces from the Soo, and students from Beacom’s private voice studio. Beacom will also conduct a collaborative work, The Christmas Canon, with the choir, a kids’ chorus, and string quartet.
The choir will also be joined by a community band, under the direction of Joseph Arendt, band director at Brimley Public Schools. The choir and band will jointly perform Five Holiday Favorites, a medley of 5 popular holiday tunes in five different pop styles of music!
A Dickens Christmas will round out the afternoon with strings and a bit of theatre! STARS Youth Orchestras, under the direction of Dottie Case and Maggie Twining, will play many familiar favorites while Beacom and students narrate and tell the beloved story of the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.
It wouldn’t be A STARS (or Laker) Christmas without The Hallelujah Chorus! The Orchestra will accompany the choir, while those of you in the audience will also be asked to join the fun and magic of the joyful Hallelujah Chorus! This is a favorite way to end our Holiday Concert.
This concert has long been a favorite for those in the community because of its rich collaborative efforts! Treat yourself and your family to an afternoon of music and holiday cheer and enjoy the Soo Theatre’s presentation of A STARS Candlelight Christmas.
